Klaus Franke

Klaus Franke (born April 11, 1923 in Berlin ; † September 23, 2017 in Potsdam ) was a German politician (CDU).

Life and work

After graduating from secondary school in Berlin in 1941, Franke worked for the Navy until 1945 as a lieutenant at sea on a submarine. After brief captivity , he worked for various US and British agencies in Berlin and Lüneburg until 1956 .

From 1956 to 1966 Franke worked for departments of the Federal Ministry of the Interior , most recently as frigate captain of the reserve. From 1966 he worked as a managing director for the companies Berlin Sales Organization , Mercuria Handelsvertretungs-GmbH and DEGEWO .

In addition to his job and political work, he was active in several organizations. He was a member of the board of the Association of Berlin Housing Cooperatives and Societies. V. and sat on the advisory board of R + V Allgemeine Versicherung AG for Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Berlin as well as on the advisory board of Deutsche Kredit- und Handelsbank .

politics

Franke had been a member of the CDU since 1955 . From 1958 to 1964 he was a district councilor in the Steglitz district and from March 1964 a member of the Berlin House of Representatives . He served as senator for construction and housing from 1983 to 1986. During this time Franke was also associated with the Berlin Antes scandal . In the House of Representatives he also held the function of Deputy President of the House of Representatives and was chairman of the Main Committee of the House of Representatives from December 1990 to November 1999. In 1999 he left the Berlin parliament.
