Uwe Lehmann-Brauns

Uwe Lehmann-Brauns (born August 28, 1938 in Potsdam ) is a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ). He was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives from 1979 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2016 , where he was elderly president in 2006 and one of the two vice-presidents from 2006 to 2011.

Education, work and family

Uwe Lehmann-Brauns attended elementary and grammar school in Berlin and studied law at the Free University of Berlin ; In 1965 he received his doctorate . In 1967 he held the post of attaché in the German Foreign Service . He was admitted to the bar in 1966 and as a notary in Berlin since 1976 . His grandfather is the painter Paul Lehmann-Brauns , who died in 1970, and his daughter is the photographer Anna Lehmann-Brauns .

Until the end of 2012, Lehmann-Brauns ran his law firm together with Michael Braun , the CDU politician, who was temporarily serving as Berlin Senator for Justice and Consumer Protection at the end of 2011 . The law firm gained notoriety because Lehmann-Brauns represented the map provider Euro-Cities AG for its controversial mass warnings for many years.

Uwe Lehmann-Brauns has been a member of the CDU since 1966, was local chairman in Dahlem and district chairman in Zehlendorf .

From April 26, 1979 to November 29, 2001 and again from December 23, 2004 to October 27, 2016 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives. In the 16th legislative period he was one of the two vice-presidents of the House of Representatives. During his membership in the state parliament he was also the cultural policy spokesman and deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group , as well as a member of the committee for cultural affairs.

In the federal election on September 27, 1998 , he ran unsuccessfully in constituency No. 253 (Berlin-Zehlendorf - Steglitz) ; he lost to the SPD - candidate Renate Rennebach .

Lehmann-Brauns is a co-founder of the Bürgerbüro e. V. - Association for the processing of consequential damage caused by the SED dictatorship . He is co-chairman and founding member of the German-Italian Friendship Society and 2nd chairman of the Federal Republic of Germany's group of authors; He was also the founder of the initiative to award Berlin honorary citizenship to the singer and songwriter Wolf Biermann .

2019 he published in the book "Benn's last love" for the first time the letters and telegrams that Gottfried Benn of the former Tagesspiegel - journalist wrote Gerda Peacock, and thus fulfilled their desire posthumously become known as the last mistress Benn.
