Louis Parisot

Louis Parisot SMA (born July 11, 1885 in Brognon , France , † April 21, 1960 ) was Archbishop of Cotonou in Benin .

Life

Louis Parisot joined the Africa Mission Society and was ordained a priest on October 17, 1909 .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on March 11, 1935 Vicar Apostolic of Dahomey and Titular Bishop of Tacapae . He received episcopal ordination from the Bishop of Dijon , Pierre Petit de Julleville . Co- consecrators were the Vicar Apostolic of Togo , Bishop Jean-Marie Cessou SMA, and the Bishop of Montpellier , Gabriel Brunhes .

Parisot immediately began to spread the Christian faith in the north of Dahomey, today's Benin , and from 1937 on he took over the task in Kandi, Tchaourou and Natitingou. In the years 1942 and 1948, independent apostolic prefectures in Niamey and Parakou were established in the north under the direction of François Faroud SMA . As Vicar Apostolic of Ouidah, Parisot remained shepherd of the remaining territory.

On September 14, 1955, Louis Parisot was appointed its first archbishop with the elevation of the Vicariate Apostolic Ouidah to the Archdiocese of Cotonou . On January 5, 1960, Pope John XXIII. his age-related resignation from the office of archbishop and appointed his auxiliary bishop Bernardin Gantin as his successor.
