The Archdiocese of Niamey ( Latin : Archidioecesis Niameyensis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Niamey in Niger . It includes the capital Niamey and the regions of Dosso and Tillabéri in western Niger.

history

On April 28, 1942, parts of the area of ​​numerous Apostolic Vicariates ( Dahomey , Khartoum and Foumban ) and Apostolic Prefectures of North and Central Africa were combined in the Apostolic Prefecture of Niamey. On May 13, 1948, the Niamey Apostolic Prefecture gave parts of its territory to establish the Parakou Apostolic Prefecture . Further assignments of territory took place on February 12, 1959 to found the Apostolic Prefecture Fada N'Gourma and on March 12, 2001 to found the Diocese of Maradi . On March 21, 1961, the Apostolic Prefecture Niamey was elevated to a diocese. On June 25, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. the diocese to the archbishopric and subordinated to him the diocese of Maradi as a suffragan .
