Djalwana Laurent Lompo

Djalwana Laurent Lompo (* 1. January 1967 in Koulbou ) a Nigerien Roman Catholic priest and Archbishop of Niamey .

Life

Djalwana Laurent Lompo's birthplace Koulbou belongs to the municipality of Torodi in western Niger. Lompo went to primary school in Makalondi from 1975 , followed by attending the middle school in Say and the Lycée Kassaï in Niamey . He was baptized on April 18, 1987 in the parish of Saint François d'Assise in Makalondi.

Lompo studied philosophy and theology at the St. Jean-Baptiste Seminary in Ouagadougou and the St. Pierre Claver Seminary in Bobo-Dioulasso . He was ordained a priest on September 21, 1997 . He then worked as parish vicar in Niamey until 2000 . From 2001 to 2002 Lompo did a pastoral training at the Institut de formation des éducateurs du clergé in Paris . In 2003 he became vicar general .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on January 26, 2013 titular bishop of Buffada and auxiliary bishop in Niamey. The Archbishop of Niamey, Michel Christian Cartatéguy SMA , donated him the episcopal ordination on June 9 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Séraphin François Rouamba , Archbishop of Koupéla , and Ambroise Ouédraogo , Bishop of Maradi .

On October 11, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Niamey. The inauguration planned for February of the following year had to be postponed because of riots against Christians in Zinder and Niamey. It took place on June 14, 2015 in Niamey Cathedral with the participation of more than 2000 believers and about twenty bishops.
