The Archdiocese of Cotonou (Latin Archidioecesis Cotonuensis , French Archidiocèse de Cotonou ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Benin with its seat in Cotonou .

history

The forerunner of today's Archdiocese of Cotonou is on June 26, 1883 by Pope Gregory XVI. established Dahomey Apostolic Prefecture , separated from the Vicariate Apostolic Coste di Benin .

On May 25, 1901, the prefecture of Leo XIII. raised to the Apostolic Vicariate Dahomey and on May 13, 1948 by Pius XII. renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of Ouidah .

On September 14, 1955, Pius XII. the Apostolic Vicariate of Ouidah with the relocation of the seat to today's Archdiocese of Cotonou.
