Marcel Honorat Léon Agboton

Marcel Honorat Léon Agboton (born January 16, 1941 in Avrankou ) is Old Archbishop of Cotonou ( Benin ).

Life

Agboton studied from 1960 at the seminary in Ouidah . Pope Paul VI personally ordained him on January 6, 1966 in Rome as a priest of the diocese of Porto-Novo . From 1967 he stayed in France, where he obtained a licentiate in theology in 1970.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Kandi on December 19, 1994 . The Cardinal Dean and Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Bishops, Bernardin Gantin , donated him episcopal consecration on March 25 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Nestor Assogba , Archbishop of Parakou , and Vincent Mensah , Bishop of Porto-Novo.

On January 29, 2000 he was appointed Bishop of Porto-Novo. On March 5, 2005, he was appointed Archbishop of Cotonou. He resigned from his post on August 21, 2010 after allegations of corruption.
