The Vickers Medium Mark III was a multi-turret tank designed for the British Army in 1930 . It served as a model for similar vehicles in the Soviet army .
history
development
In 1926 the British Ministry of Defense commissioned Vickers to develop a new tank to replace the previous Medium Mark II . Between 1926 and 1928, Vickers produced three prototypes based on the Vickers A1E1 Independent with the designations A6E1 , A6E2 and A6E3 . After these design drafts did not prove themselves, however, the development of the Medium Mark III began in 1928 . This design is similar to the previous one, but had a different turret and better armor. Production started in 1930.
technology
The tank had three turrets with a total of three machine guns and a 3 pounder cannon. The vehicle was powered by a V8 engine with 180 hp.
A total of three Mark III were built. One from Vickers and two from the Royal Ordnance Factory in Woolwich . No further orders followed due to the high production price.
