Georg Wittwer
Georg Wittwer (born April 8, 1932 in Waldshut ; † April 13, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German architect and former politician ( CDU ).
Life and work
After graduating from high school, Wittwer first completed an apprenticeship as a mason. He then took up a degree in architecture at the Technical University of Berlin , which he finished in 1960 with a degree in engineering. He worked in an architecture office in Düsseldorf , was a scientific assistant for urban planning at the Technical University of Berlin, since 1967 employee and from 1971 head of the Wulfen development company for the construction of the New City of Wulfen .
Political commitment
Wittwer was already politically active in his youth and joined the CDU. From 1981 to 1986 Wittwer was Senate Director for Urban Development and Environmental Protection ( State Secretary ) in Berlin . After Building Senator Franke (CDU) announced his resignation in 1986 as part of the so-called Antes affair , Wittwer was appointed as his successor. Wittwer only stayed in this office until March 1989, when Eberhard Diepgen lost the Berlin election in 1989 . The SPD politician Wolfgang Nagel was appointed his successor .
Wittwer moved into the Berlin House of Representatives in 1989 , where he was chairman of the environmental committee from 1991. In 1995 he retired from active politics.
