Dorothee Stapelfeldt (* 12. August 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German doctorate art historian and politician ( SPD ). Since April 2015 she has been Senator for Urban Development and Housing for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg .

Before that, she was Second Mayor and Senator for Science and Research in Hamburg from March 2011 to April 2015 . From 1986 to 2011 she was a member of the Hamburg Parliament , and from 2000 to 2004 she was President of the Hamburg Parliament for the first time. On March 7, 2011, she was re-elected to this office. After her appointment as second mayor and senator for science and research, she resigned from this office.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1975, Stapelfeldt studied art history, German literature, and social and economic history. In 1989 she did her doctorate on housing construction in Hamburg in the 1950s.

From 1997 to 2000 she was the parliamentary managing director of the SPD parliamentary group and from 2000 to 2004 she was president of the Hamburg parliament. From 2005 to 2011 she worked at Volksfürsorge AG as a division manager for cooperations and as a board member for cooperations.

On December 21, 2018, she married her long-time partner. She is the mother of two children.

politics

During her studies she was active in both student and academic self-administration. In 1978 she joined the SPD. At the end of the 1970s she was the AStA chairwoman of the University of Hamburg . From 1980 to 1984 she was a member of the state board of Jusos Hamburg, which she also represented on the state board of the SPD Hamburg . From 1994 to 2000 and from 2004 to 2007 she was deputy state chairwoman. From 2000 to 2011 she was also deputy chairwoman of the SPD party council.

From 1981 to 1985 she was a deputy at the authority for science and research . She has been a member of the Hamburg Parliament since 1986. From 1997 to 2000 she worked as the parliamentary manager of the SPD parliamentary group and from 2000 to 2004 as President of the Hamburg Parliament . In 2005 Dorothee Stapelfeldt tried to become a direct candidate for the SPD for constituency 21 ( Eimsbüttel ) in the 2005 Bundestag election , but was defeated by her opponent Niels Annen in the internal party vote with 31 to 58 votes .

At the state board meeting of the SPD Hamburg on January 22, 2007, she announced that she wanted to compete in a member vote for the place as SPD mayor candidate in 2008 against the SPD state chairman Mathias Petersen . This vote was carried out on February 25, 2007 after a week-long election campaign, but the counting was canceled due to the disappearance of 959 postal votes. When counting the available votes, Petersen was unassailable in the lead with 2780 votes to 1730 votes.

Dorothee Stapelfeldt announced shortly thereafter that she would no longer be available as a candidate for SPD mayor.

In the 19th electoral term of the Hamburg citizenship, she held the office of deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group and also acted as the specialist spokesperson for science and research in her parliamentary group.

In the constituent meeting of the 20th Hamburg Citizenship on March 7, 2011, she was re-elected to the office of Mayor President with 108 of 119 votes cast. However, she gave up this position two weeks later after Olaf Scholz appointed her new Senator for Science and Research and second mayor.

On April 15, the Senate Scholz II was sworn in in the citizenry. After the red-green coalition negotiations decided to split the former “Authority for Urban Development and Environment” into the “Authority for Urban Development and Housing” and the “Authority for Environment and Energy”, Stapelfeldt took over the office of Senator for Urban Development and Housing . She has also held this post in Senate Tschentscher I since March 28, 2018 and has been a member of the subsequent Tschentscher II Senate since June 10, 2020 .

Memberships

Stapelfeldt is a member of the ver.di union , the SJD-Die Falken , the BUND and the Rotary Club . She is also the chairwoman of the board of trustees of the " Neighborhood Foundation " of the Hamburg housing company SAGA .
