Johann Anton Theodor Hoffmann (born August 2, 1807 in Hamburg ; † June 28, 1890 there ) was a German teacher and member and president of the Hamburg Parliament .

Life

Hoffmann successfully attended the school of the German Reformed community and was then a school assistant at various private schools. As early as 1835 he was appointed teacher and head of the school of the German Reformed community. He held this office until he was appointed school council in 1873. As a school councilor, Hoffmann was primarily responsible for the primary schools in Hamburg . In 1882 he retired.

Hoffmann worked for a school reform in various committees and associations, but was mostly unable to prevail against the proposals of the reform pedagogue Anton Rée .

Hoffmann belonged to the Hamburg Constituent Assembly .

From 1859 to 1873 Hoffmann belonged to the Hamburg citizenship . He was second vice president from 1863 to 1865, and first vice president in 1868 and 1869. From July to December 1869, Hoffmann was President of the City Council when Hermann Baumeister briefly lost the trust of the City Council.

Hoffmann was a Freemason , since 1832 he belonged to the Boanerges Lodge for Brotherly Love . From 1874 to 1880 he held the office of Provincial Grand Master of the Provincial Lodge of Lower Saxony in Hamburg .
