He is married for the second time and has three children.

politics

Röder joined the CDU in 1968 and was chairman of the CDU local association Langenhorn from 1974 to 1979 and again from 1982 to 1994 . From 1974 to 1985 he was a member of the district assembly in the Hamburg-Nord district . In November 1974 he spoke out with his party friend Joachim Lampe for a stricter implementation of the night flight ban at Hamburg Airport . Later he even called for an extension of the night's sleep at the airport. In 1987, he and his parliamentary group colleague Roland Salchow spoke out against a household waste dump in the Hummelsbüttler Feldmark, as this would endanger one of the most important local recreation areas.

In 1982 for a short time and again since October 1984 he was a member of the citizenship of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. For a time he was a member of the CDU parliamentary group committee. He was its First Vice President from 1997 to 2004 and its President from March 2004 to February 2010. In 1985 he demanded that the planned Fuhlsbüttel bypass should not be connected directly in front of the airport at the intersection of Sengelmannstrasse / Alsterkrugchaussee, as planned by the deputation of the environmental authority , but rather at the Jahnring in Winterhude in order to prevent sneaking through residential areas in Fuhlsbüttel. In addition, he demanded that planning for an airport in Kaltenkirchen be resumed because the capacity of Hamburg airport was finally exhausted in 2005.

In June 2004 Röder came under fire after he had pressed a specially installed alarm button in the offices of the citizenship office to measure the time until the police arrived. The State Security Department of the State Criminal Police Office and the public prosecutor's office then investigated him for abuse of emergency call facilities. The proceedings were discontinued on payment of a fine of € 2500. He also had to reimburse the city for half of the costs incurred as a result of the abuse.

In February 2010, Röder was again criticized after he turned to the councilors of the interior and environmental authorities and thus exerted pressure on the Hamburg city cleaning service to have his remote residential street in Groß Borstel cleared of the ice. At the same time, all of Hamburg's side streets had a thick, mirror-smooth sheet of ice, as the city cleaning service only saw itself in a position to clear the main streets. Röder gave the reason for this special treatment that he wanted a neighboring event center. On February 20, 2010, he then announced his resignation as President of the Hamburg Parliament.

At the end of the 19th electoral term in February 2011, Röder resigned as a member of the Hamburg Parliament. In 2012 Röder was elected a deputy member of the media council of the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein media authority .
