Hansjörg Sinn
Hansjörg Sinn (born July 20, 1929 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German chemist and former Hamburg Senator .
Life
In 1948 he studied chemistry and physics in Mainz . In 1956 he received his doctorate under Ferdinand Bohlmann at the TH Braunschweig on "Studies on Acetylene Systems" . Sinn completed his habilitation in Munich in 1963 with Franz Patat on "Living polymers and Ziegler catalysis ". During this time he married his wife Margrit, with whom he has two sons.
After completing his habilitation, Sinn worked for BASF for two years , where he optimized nitrosis absorption and nitric acid formation.
In 1965 he was offered the chair for applied chemistry at the University of Hamburg . His field of work was the metallocene / methylaluminoxane initiated polyreactions and the pyrolysis of plastics and used tires. He declined appointments to the universities of Dortmund (1968) and Munich (1972). He was able to register various patents in this area and many of his former students have now become professors themselves.
In terms of university politics, sense also had an effect. For several years he was rector and vice-president of the University of Hamburg and from 1978 to 1984 he was an independent Hamburg Senator for Science. During this time he initiated the establishment of the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg . Honorary doctorates from the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg and the Technical University of Clausthal , as well as other honorary awards testify to his intensive work in teaching, research and politics. In 1989 he was awarded the Mayor Stolten Medal by the Hamburg Senate . In 1993 he became an honorary member of the Association of German Engineers (VDI), which awarded him the Grashof Memorial Medal in 1997 . In October 2009 a lecture hall in the Chemistry Department of the University of Hamburg was named after him in his honor. In 1995 he received the Alwin Mittasch Medal .
Widowed and retired now, he still works in his laboratory in Clausthal-Zellerfeld .
