Anjes Tjarks (born March 12, 1981 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Hamburg ) and has been the first Senator for Transport and Mobility of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in the Tschentscher II Senate since June 10, 2020 . Before that, he had been a member of the Hamburg Parliament since March 2011 .

Professional and private

Tjarks was born in Hamburg- Barmbek and grew up in Jenfeld . After graduating from high school in Marienthal and then doing community service, he studied English and politics for teaching in Hamburg and Stellenbosch, South Africa . He did his legal clerkship from 2011 to 2012 at the monastery school in St. Georg , where he has since worked as a teacher. He received his doctorate , supported by the Heinrich Böll Foundation , in political science and cognitive linguistics on the subject of "family images equals world images".

Political career

Tjarks has been a member of the Green Alternative List (GAL) - now Alliance 90 / The Greens - in Hamburg since 1998 . He was a member of the Wandsbek district board , treasurer of the Green Youth Hamburg and co-founder of Campusgrün in Hamburg. For four years he was a consultant for European politics, international affairs and youth participation in the GAL citizenship group. From 2008 to 2011 Tjarks was Deputy State Chairman of the GAL.

In the state elections in Hamburg in 2008 he ran for the GAL in the constituency of Rotherbaum-Harvestehude-Eimsbüttel-Ost . With 3.8 percent of the votes in the constituency and on position 12 in the state list, however, he did not succeed in entering the citizenship. In the 2009 Bundestag elections , he ran for the Greens in the Hamburg-Wandsbek constituency , but missed out on parliament with 9.4 percent of the first votes.

In the state election in Hamburg in 2011 , he ran again in constituency 5 and finally made it into the state parliament with 3.9 percent of the votes above 6th place on the state list. Since March 7, 2011 he has been a member of the citizenship and from March 2013 to April 2015 Parliamentary Director of the Green Group. He was also the parliamentary spokesman for business, port and public companies.

In the 2015 mayor elections , Tjarks won a direct mandate in his constituency and has been a member of the 21st Hamburg Citizenship since March 2015 . In April 2015 the Green MPs elected Tjarks as their group leader. In April 2018 he was confirmed in this office by the parliamentary group.

On November 9, 2019, Tjarks was elected second on the state list of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Hamburg for the 2020 state election with 86.48% . On February 23, 2020, Tjarks was able to move into the Hamburg citizenship again .

In the course of the formation of a new red-green coalition in Hamburg, it was announced in May 2020 that Tjarks will be appointed as the new Transport Senator of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg from June 2020 . Since his election by the citizens on June 10, 2020, he has led a specially newly created authority for transport and mobility in Senate Tschentscher II , which is responsible for the area of ​​Hamburg’s transport policy , which has previously been part of the economic authority. During the election campaign, the Greens and their previous parliamentary group leader, Tjarks, intensified their campaign for responsibility for transport issues in order to be able to more effectively implement their climate and environmental policy concepts of a city with fewer cars and more bicycle-friendly. Tjarks describes himself as a passionate cyclist. However, in the course of the coalition negotiations, at the insistence of the SPD as the larger coalition partner, the important competencies for the port , the airport and the planning approval remained with the economic authorities .

Tjark's mandate as a member of the Hamburg parliament is suspended during his tenure as senator.
