Alexander Strassmeir

Alexander Straßmeir (* 1964 in Berlin ) is a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ). From January 2012 to December 2016 he was State Secretary in the Berlin Senate Department for Justice and Consumer Protection.

Life and work

Straßmeir is a member of the CDU. He studied law and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin . After completing the state examinations in law, he worked in the Scientific Parliamentary Service of the Berlin House of Representatives from September 1992 . In 1993 he moved to the Berlin Senate Chancellery , where he was head of department until his election to the district councilor in 1996.

From 2002 until his appointment as State Secretary, Straßmeir worked in the consistory of the Evangelical Church . There he was department head and deputy to the consistorial president Ulrich Seelemann .

Straßmeir has been President of the Berlin State Office for Refugee Affairs since 2018 . He succeeds Claudia Langeheine, who was the first president of the newly established office.

Offices

District Councilor

From 1996 on, Straßmeir was district councilor for construction, housing and environmental protection in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. From 2000 he was also responsible for youth, sports and schools. In the district office of the merged district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Straßmeir also took on the role of district councilor for construction and environmental protection. After the early election of the new district assembly in October 2001, he left office.

State Secretary

On December 1, 2011, Straßmeir was appointed State Secretary in the Senate Department for Justice and Consumer Protection with effect from January 1, 2012. Since taking office, Straßmeir was responsible for justice there.

After Michael Braun's resignation from the office of Justice Senator, Straßmeir was meanwhile considered a possible successor.

At the end of December 18, 2016, Straßmeir was put into temporary retirement .
