The Ministry for Social Affairs, Integration and Equal Opportunities of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (short form: MSIG MV ), based in Schwerin, is one of eight ministries of the state administration. The current minister is Stefanie Drese ( SPD ). Nikolaus Voss is State Secretary .

history

After the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was founded in 1945, there were initially no traditional ministries, but departments subordinate to the president or vice-president. Among other things, there was a department for welfare. This resulted in the Ministry of Social Affairs in 1946, which was renamed the Ministry of Labor and Health in 1950. These existed until the state was dissolved in 1952.

When Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was re-established in 1990, a social ministry was set up again under the name of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs . Responsibilities have changed several times in the following governments. The Ministry of Social Affairs has had the following names since 1990:

The Ministry is located with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture in the Schwerin Marstall at the address Werderstrasse 124. While the latter is in the north wing of the classical plastered building, which was built from 1838 to 1842, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Integration and Equal Opportunities is housed in the south wing.

In addition to youth and family policy, the area of responsibility also includes social, women's and equality policy. In addition, integration policy is one of the focal points of the work.
