The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , based in Schwerin, is one of eight ministries of the state administration. The incumbent has been Till Backhaus ( SPD ) since 2006 ; it is Jürgen Buchwald as Secretary of State to the side.

history

After the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was founded in 1945, there were initially no traditional ministries, but departments subordinate to the president or vice-president. The Ministry of Agriculture emerged from the Department of Agriculture / Forests in 1946 . This was renamed several times in the following years and then existed until the state was dissolved in 1952 as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests .

With the re-establishment of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1990, a Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and a Ministry for the Environment were established, the latter being renamed the Ministry for Nature and the Environment in 1992 . Changes have been made to these layouts several times in the following governments. From 1994 to 1998 there was a Ministry for Agriculture and Nature Conservation and a Ministry for Construction, State Development and Environment , while the cuts and designations from 1990 were subsequently restored by 2006. In 2006 the areas of "Agriculture" and "Environment" were merged, and the ministry has had its current name ever since.
