List of incumbent German state consumer protection ministers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Federal Republic of Germany

The ministers responsible for consumer protection in the German federal states are colloquially referred to as state consumer protection ministers , regardless of the official name of the department. Since the BSE scandal in 2001 , the consumer protection ministers of the federal states have been working together in their own conference of specialist ministers , the Conference of Consumer Protection Ministers (VSMK), in which the responsible federal minister also takes part.

Since consumer protection tasks are divided between several ministries in some countries, the VSMK currently consists of 20 country ministers as well as Federal Minister Christine Lambrecht (Justice and Consumer Protection) and Julia Klöckner (Food and Agriculture).

The chairmanship changes annually in alphabetical order of the federal states, in 2020 Saxony-Anhalt will hold the chairmanship.

State Working Group for Consumer Protection (LAV)

Founded in 2002 as the national working group for health consumer protection (LAGV) by the Agriculture Ministers (AMK) and the Health Ministers Conference, it was renamed in 2007 and works for the VSMK and AMK. Since enforcement is regularly a matter for the federal states, it serves to ensure that the law is applied in a coordinated manner in the areas

  • Food and feed safety and nutrition,
  • Animal welfare and health,
  • economic consumer protection and
  • related professional law.

To this end, working groups have been formed which, together with representatives of the highest state authorities and with the involvement of experts and practitioners, answer questions of interpretation and develop application aids for the local administrative, i.e. also the police, authorities. The manuals developed by the Working Group on Animal Welfare (LAV-AGT) for the control of animal transports, livestock rearing and slaughtering are of great practical importance, since most German official veterinarians follow these enforcement instructions.
