List of incumbent German state interior ministers

State ministers of the interior head the supreme state authority responsible for domestic policy in the German states . The business affairs is usually in each country by a special Interior Ministry managed.

Within the framework of cooperative federalism , the interior ministers of the federal states work together in the standing conference of interior ministers and senators of the federal states (short: Conference of Interior Ministers , IMK), at whose meetings the Federal Minister responsible for the interior also regularly takes part. Through their membership in the Federal Council - particularly in its Committee for Internal Affairs - the interior ministers participate in federal legislation .

Acting interior ministers of the German states

At the moment 16 people hold the office of Minister of the Interior . Six office holders belong to the SPD and ten to the Union parties ( CDU / CSU ).

Lorenz Caffier (CDU, since 2006 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ) has the longest term of office of the currently incumbent state interior ministers .
