Ulrich Mäurer, Senator for the Interior of the Federal State of Bremen.

Ulrich Mäurer (born July 14, 1951 in Höhr-Grenzhausen ) is a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ). Since May 7th, 2008 he has been Senator for the Interior of the State of Bremen .

Family, education and work

After graduating from high school in 1971, Mäurer began studying law at the universities of Marburg and Bremen , which he completed in 1978 with the examination as part of the one-step legal training . A year later, he joined the administrative service in Bremen as an assessor and was later assigned to perform various advisory tasks in the Senator's office for the administration of justice and the penal system. In November 1987 he took over the management of the training and examination office for the one-stage legal training and in August 1988 he became department head in the department of the Senator for Justice and Constitution. In January 1997 he also became managing director of the state-owned service company JUDIT.

Mäurer is married and has two children.

Mäurer joined the SPD in 1970. In 1997 he became a State Councilor with the Bremen Senator for Justice and Constitution. In this role he became known through a controversial proposal for the election of a judge in 2002 and an investigation report published in 2006 on the " Kevin case ", in which he accused the relevant authorities of serious errors in connection with the death of a two-year-old boy.

On May 7, 2008, Mäurer succeeded Willi Lemke as Senator for the Interior and Sport ( Senate Böhrnsen II ). In 2009, he held the rotating chairmanship of the federal state interior ministers' conference. In 2011 he was confirmed in his office as Senator ( Senate Böhrnsen III ).

In 2014, the DFB called for a share of the costs for the massive police operations that are regularly required at football games, which was opposed by the German Football League (DFL). On March 29, 2019, the Federal Administrative Court decided in the last instance that a fee collection is generally permissible for the special police effort on the occasion of a commercial high-risk event.

Between 2015 and 2019 he continued to hold the position of Senator for Home Affairs in the Sieling Senate .

Mäurer moved back to Bremen's citizenship as a member of the Bremen parliamentary elections in 2019 . He received almost 17,000 votes ( Bremen suffrage ). In the Bovenschulte Senate he was then reappointed Senator for Home Affairs. He continues to exercise this office.

As a senator, Mäurer is a member of the supervisory bodies of the Bremen Totto and Lotto Society and the Bremen Weserstadiongesellschaft .
