Bernt Schulte (born March 3, 1942 in Berlin ) is a Bremen politician and former senator in Bremen .

biography

education and profession

Schulte attended a modern-language grammar school until 1963 and after completing his military service he studied social science and history at the University of Hamburg and Amsterdam from 1965 to 1972 . He received his doctorate as Dr. phil. While still a student, he was chairman of the European Federal Student Union from 1968 to 1969 . From 1972 to 1974 he worked for the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . He volunteered at the Bremen Chamber of Commerce . Then from 1974 he was managing director of the Bremen association of employers 'associations and from 1974 he also headed the education system of the employers' associations. Schulte was promoted to colonel of the reserve in the Bundeswehr .

After his time as a politician, Schulte started working as a management consultant in 2001.

politics

In 1971 Schulte became a member of the CDU and from 1975 to 1985 he was district chairman of the CDU and a member of the state executive committee of the CDU in Bremen. From 1971 to 1975 he worked on the Schwachhausen Advisory Board . From 1976 he was regional chairman of the European Union .

From 1975 to 1995 he was a member of the Bremen citizenship for around 20 years and worked in various deputations and committees of the citizenship, including from 1975 to 1983 as deputy chairman of the committee for the higher education law and the higher education reform, from 1975 to 1979 as deputy chairman of the Committee for the Radio Bremen Act and from 1983 to 1987 as deputy chairman of the committee for the training place situation.

From July 4, 1995 to July 7, 1999 he was Senator for Construction, Transport and Urban Development in the first Senate of the SPD / CDU coalition under the leadership of the President of the Senate Henning Scherf ( SPD ). Schulte's main focus was to support an offensive settlement policy of commercial enterprises in Bremen in terms of planning law. He also pursued the further expansion of the tram network. In 1999, Christine Wischer took over the construction department from the SPD. Schulte was then until July 13, 2001 Senator for the Interior, Culture and Sport in the second Senate of Scherf. Schulte resigned in 2001 after internal party criticism. His successor for a short time was Kuno Böse (CDU).
