politics

Lemke has been a member of the SPD since 1971 . Until 1984 she was chairwoman of the Bremen local association Peterswerder and from 1978 to 1981 on the board of the sub-district Bremen-Ost of the SPD.

From 1979 to 1984 she was a member of the Bremen citizenship and at the same time a member and at times spokeswoman in the deputations for social affairs and environmental protection.

From January 1984, after the death of Senator Hede Lütjen (SPD) , she was appointed to the Senate under the leadership of Hans Koschnick (SPD) as Senator for Environmental Protection. She was the youngest minister or senator in the Federal Republic of Germany. From December 1985 to 1987 she was also the Senator for Labor. From 1987 onwards, the environmental department was also given the task of building construction and urban development. In 1989, responsibilities were separated and Lemke remained Senator for Environmental Protection and Urban Development. In the Ampelkoalition ( SPD , Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen , FDP ) from 1991 to 1995 under the leadership of Klaus Wedemeier (SPD) Ralf Fücks took over the department of environmental protection and urban development from the Greens, Lemke became senator for construction. This coalition broke up prematurely in 1995, and the SPD lost heavily in the new elections. In the red / black coalition of SPD and CDU under the leadership of Henning Scherf (SPD), Bernt Schulte (CDU) took over the building department and Lemke left the Senate in 1995.
