Karl Weßling

Karl Weßling (born March 11, 1911 in Bremen , † August 18, 1968 in Bremen) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

biography

education and profession

After attending elementary school, Weßling completed an apprenticeship as an electrician from 1926 to 1929, then worked in the profession he had learned and from 1934 worked as a fitter at Siemens-Schuckertwerke . He became involved in a union, took up a job as a secretary at the ÖTV in 1947 and was later the managing director or first chairman of the Bremen local authority.

politics

Weßling had been a member of the SPD since 1929. He had been a member of the Bremen citizenship since 1947 , where he was mainly involved in health policy.

He was appointed as the successor to Health Senator Karl Krammig (CDU) and Labor Senator Gerhard van Heukelum (SPD) on December 21, 1959 as Senator for Work and Health in the Senate led by the Mayor of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen Wilhelm Kaisen . He also remained in office in the subsequent governments headed by Willy Dehnkamp and Hans Koschnick before he died on August 18, 1968. Senator Karl-Heinz Jantzen followed him in office.
