Vera Rüdiger (born April 5, 1936 in Vollmarshausen ) is a German political scientist and politician ( SPD ).

life and work

After graduating from high school, Rüdiger studied theater studies, sociology and political science in Marburg. She did her doctorate in 1965 under Wolfgang Abendroth on the municipal electoral associations in Hesse for Dr. phil. , worked as a school teacher from 1959 to 1961 and as a university teacher from 1961 to 1970. From 1972 to 1975 she was the founding president of the comprehensive university in Kassel .

She was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1970 to 1972 and again from 1978 to 1987. While she was elected in the Main-Kinzig III constituency in the state elections in Hesse in 1983 , she was elected to parliament in the remaining elections via the SPD state list. From 1974 to 1978 she was State Secretary in the Hessian Ministry of Culture. In 1978 she was the first woman to be appointed by Holger Börner to a Hessian state government, where she was Minister for Federal Affairs until 1984, after which she headed the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art until 1987 . From 1988 to 1991 she was responsible for the health department and federal affairs in the Bremen Senate .
