Reiner Finkeldey

Reiner Finkeldey (* 1962 in Minden ) is a German forest scientist who has been President of the University of Kassel since October 1, 2015 . Before that, he was Vice President of the Georg-August University in Göttingen .

education

After graduating from high school in Minden, Reiner Finkeldey studied forest science in Göttingen and completed his studies with diploma exams in forest science of temperate latitudes and tropical / subtropical forest science. For his dissertation on the conservation of forest genetic resources, he examined genetic variation patterns in tree species in Taiwan and Germany.

After completing his doctorate, Reiner Finkeldey worked for two years in a FAO project based in Los Baños , Philippines , on the cultivation of trees in Asia . As a habilitation grant from the German Research Foundation , he then examined the pairing system of teak in Thailand during research stays in Bangkok, Umeå, Sweden, and Göttingen. From 1997 to 2001 Reiner Finkeldey worked as a population geneticist at the Swiss Research Institute for Forests, Snow and Landscape (WSL) in Birmensdorf , Switzerland , before accepting a professorship for forest genetics and forest plant breeding at the University of Göttingen. Reiner Finkeldey's most important research areas relate to adaptation-relevant genetic variations in forest trees to environmental changes (global change), connections between genetic variation with species diversity and ecosystem management, as well as genetic variation in tropical plants.

Offices

From April 2013 to September 2015 Reiner Finkeldey was Vice President of the University of Göttingen with the research department. Previously, he was Dean of the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology and a member of the Senate. On January 28, 2015, he was elected as the new President of the University of Kassel, succeeding Rolf-Dieter Postlep , who had held the office since 2000.
