Karl Johannes Beermann (born November 17, 1960 in Emsdetten ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and lawyer. From 2008 to 2014 he was head of the Saxon State Chancellery . Since January 2015 he has been a member of the board of the Deutsche Bundesbank .

Life

After graduating from high school, Beermann began studying law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , completing the first state examination in 1985 and the second in 1988. In 1990 he received his doctorate at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster for Dr. jur. Topic: "Forfeiture and protection of legitimate expectations in tax law".

Beermann headed the Malteser Aid Service in the Diocese of Limburg from 2002 to 2003 . As Count Walderdorff's successor , he took over the office of diocesan head in 2002. When he moved to Berlin in 2003, he handed over the office to his successor, Count Khevenhüller -Metsch.

From 2003 to 2008 he was the general representative and press spokesman of the Fundus Group under Anno August Jagdfeld , which is often criticized for the imbalance in some closed real estate funds. The discussion about the luxury hotel in Heiligendamm in connection with the G8 summit in 2007 received considerable media coverage . From August 10, 2007 to June 18, 2008, Beermann was a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Real Estate AG, including chairman of this body from March 13, 2008.

Beermann worked as a lawyer at the Berlin law firm Rödl Enneking & Partner, a subsidiary of the auditing and consulting company Rödl & Partner . He has not practiced his profession as a lawyer since 2008 and as Minister of State of Saxony.

Beermann is married and has three children, two sons and a daughter. He lives in Berlin .

politics

Beermann is a member of the CDU. In 1995 he became State Councilor in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . In 1999 he became the federal state representative of Hesse with the rank of State Secretary , replacing Norbert Schüren in this function . He remained in this position until 2003. He was succeeded by Jochen Riebel .

In June 2008 he was appointed head of the Saxon State Chancellery by Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich ( Cabinet Tillich I ) and confirmed in September 2009 ( Cabinet Tillich II ). Beermann had already been seconded to Saxony after German reunification , where he last worked in the State Chancellery.

From 1996 to 1999 Beermann was a representative of Bremen on the ZDF television council . Until September 30, 2008 Beermann was a member of the supervisory board of Pro-Funk Gesellschaft für Rundfunkförderung in Germany and abroad with limited liability. Since 2008 he has represented Saxony on the ZDF television council and is also a member of the program advisory board of the broadcaster ARTE . He has also been a member of the supervisory board of Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung since August 1, 2008.

In June 2013, the Saxon state government proposed him to the Federal Council as a candidate to succeed Rudolf Böhmler on the board of the Deutsche Bundesbank . In January 2015, he took up the position on the board. Beermann is responsible for the areas of administration, construction, procurement, controlling and cash.
