Ulrike Riedel

Ulrike Riedel (* 1948 in Bayerisch Gmain ) is a lawyer and, among other things, a member of the German Ethics Council . She was a member of the Hessian Landtag ( The Greens ) and State Secretary in Hesse and Saxony-Anhalt .

education and profession

Ulrike Riedel studied law in Cologne and Munich from 1967 to 1975 and, after completing her legal clerkship in Augsburg and Munich in 1975, passed the second state examination in Munich. She then worked for eight years as a lawyer specializing in family law and social law in Munich. From 1983 to April 1986 she was legal counsel for the parliamentary group Die Grünen in the German Bundestag and from 1986 to 1987 head of division in the Hessian Ministry for Environment and Energy . After the state elections in Hesse in 1987 , she left the ministry and worked as a lawyer in Frankfurt from 1988 to 1991 with a focus on environmental and technology law.

After retiring as State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, she worked as a lawyer in Berlin from 1996 to 1998 with a focus on environmental and technology law and from 1999 to 2001 as head of the health care and disease control department at the Federal Ministry of Health in Bonn. She has been a lawyer in Berlin since 2001 (medical law).

From 2006 to 2008 she was a lecturer at the Charité University Hospital Berlin for medical law in the reform course of medicine.

Political offices and memberships

Ulrike Riedel was from September 28, 1989 ( replacing Priska Hinz ) to April 1991 a member of the Hessian state parliament and from April 1991 to October 1994 State Secretary in the Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Federal Affairs and authorized representative of the State of Hesse at the federal government. From October 1994 and August 1996 she was State Secretary for Justice in Saxony-Anhalt.

Ulrike Riedel was appointed to the German Ethics Council in 2008 on the proposal of the German Bundestag. From 2003 to 2005 she was a member of the inquiry commission "Ethics and Law of Modern Medicine" of the German Bundestag (15th legislative period) and 2001/2002 a member of the inquiry commission "Law and Ethics of Modern Medicine" of the German Bundestag (14th electoral period). Until 2009 she was a member of the Chamber for Public Responsibility of the EKD . She also sits on the advisory board of the Stem Cell Research Network in North Rhine-Westphalia , is a member of the Academy for Ethics in Medicine , the Gen-Ethical Network and the Öko-Institut , of which she was a member of the board from 1989 to 1991.
