The Tillich II cabinet formed the state government of the Free State of Saxony from 2009 to 2014 . In the election for the 5th Saxon state parliament on August 30, 2009, the FDP doubled its number of seats to 14 seats and replaced the SPD as a small coalition partner of the CDU , which has ruled since 1990 . Together, the parliamentary groups of the CDU and FDP had a majority of 72 seats compared to 60 seats in the opposition from Die Linke , SPD, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and NPD .

Stanislaw Tillich , state chairman of the CDU Saxony and head of government since 2008 , was re-elected Saxon Prime Minister in the constituent session of the Saxon state parliament on September 29, 2009 with 69 of 128 votes cast . The other candidates Martin Dulig (SPD) and Johannes Müller (NPD) received 15 and eight votes, respectively. The next day the ministers of state appointed by Tillich were sworn in before the state parliament.

In accordance with Article 68 (2) of the Constitution of the Free State of Saxony , the cabinet was in office from the day of the first session of the 6th Saxon State Parliament on September 30, 2014 until the new state government ( Tillich III cabinet ) took office on November 13, 2014.
