Fritz Jaeckel (born July 12, 1963 in Flensburg ) is a German lawyer and political official . From November 2014 to December 2017, he was Saxony's Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the State Chancellery .

Life

Jaeckel attended the cathedral school Schleswig until his Abitur in 1982 and then did his military service. From 1983 he studied law at the University of Passau . He passed his first state examination in law at Heidelberg University , and his second in Stuttgart in 1992 . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for International Business Law at the University of Münster, where he received his doctorate in 1994 on the subject of the scope of the lex fori in international civil procedural law .

From 1994 to 1996 Jaeckel was legal advisor at the State Insurance Institution of Saxony in Leipzig. From 1996 to 2002 he was the personal advisor to the district president Walter Christian Steinbach in Leipzig and then head of the department for municipal supervision and savings banks. He then moved to the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior , where he took over a deputy head of department and, after the flood in August 2002, was deployed in the control center for reconstruction in the Saxon State Chancellery. From 2004 he was head of a department in the Saxon State Ministry for the Environment and Agriculture and from 2007 in the Saxon State Chancellery with the focus on the state parliament, the Federal Council and the cabinet. In April 2008 he took over the office of the Prime Minister of Saxony. After Herbert Wolff was transferred to the Saxon State Ministry for Culture , Jaeckel was appointed State Secretary in the Saxon State Ministry for Environment and Agriculture in the Tillich II cabinet as part of a cabinet reshuffle on March 20, 2012 . On November 13, 2014, Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich appointed him Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the State Chancellery in the Tillich III cabinet. After Tillich's resignation and the appointment of Michael Kretschmer as his successor, he handed over his position to Oliver Schenk at the end of 2017 .

Since May 1, 2018, he has been Managing Director of the North Westphalia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Münster.
