Walter Christian Steinbach

Walter Christian Steinbach (born May 10, 1944 in Zwenkau ) is a German politician ( SPD , later CDU ), former member of the Saxon state parliament (1990–1991) and district president of Leipzig (1991–2010).

Life

Steinbach studied mathematics and physics at the University of Leipzig from 1962 to 1966 . Then, from 1966 to 1973, he worked as a technical college lecturer. From 1969 to 1974 he studied theology at the University of Leipzig . Between 1975 and 1985 he was pastor in Rötha . From 1985 to 1990 Steinbach was a full-time director of studies for the “Church course for child and youth work” at the Saxon regional church , which had been set up once at the university level at the Theological Seminary in Leipzig . Steinbach volunteered to lead the Christian environmental seminar in Rötha .

politics

From 1990 to 1991 Steinbach was a member of the Borna district council . Furthermore, he moved into the Saxon state parliament in October 1990 via the state list of the SPD Saxony . There he was a member of the Interior Committee and the Petitions Committee. When he became district president of Leipzig in February 1991 , he left the state parliament. His successor was Joachim Richter . In July 2002 Steinbach left the SPD and joined the CDU.

Steinbach retired on May 31, 2010.

Honorary positions

Steinbach was appointed to the cathedral chapter of the United Cathedral Donors in 2011 and served as cathedral dean from June 18, 2012 . In February 2013 he stepped down as dean, but remained a canon. Steinbach is chairman of the board of trustees of the Forest Foundation for Saxony.
