Frank Kupfer (born July 10, 1962 in Torgau ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2008 to 2014 he was Saxony's Minister of State for Environment and Agriculture . From September 2014 to September 2018 he was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament .

Life

After obtaining the general university entrance qualification, he learned the trade of telecommunications technician . He practiced this profession from 1980 to 1985 in Leipzig and Oschatz . 1985/1986 he did military service in the National People's Army . Frank Kupfer is married, has two children and lives in Oschatz.

Kupfer joined the GDR CDU in 1982 . 1986 to 1989 he was deputy and from 1990 to 1994 district manager of the CDU in the district of Oschatz . This activity was suspended during his membership in the state parliament.

Frank Kupfer had been a member of the Saxon state parliament since 1994 and was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group from 2002 until he joined the state government in June 2008. He represented constituency 33 (Torgau-Oschatz) in the state parliament . From 1999 to 2001 Kupfer was Secretary General of the CDU Saxony . From 2004 to 2008, Kupfer belonged to the Torgau-Oschatz district council . In June 2008, Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich appointed him Environment Minister of the Free State of Saxony. He held this office after the formation of the black and yellow state government in September 2009. After the state elections in 2014 , he was elected by the CDU state parliamentary group as parliamentary group chairman for the sixth legislative period on September 2, 2014 .

On September 13, 2018, he announced that he would leave his post as parliamentary group chairman until the election of a successor, which was scheduled for September 25, 2018, because he was suffering from depression . He retained his state parliament mandate until the 2019 state election and then withdrew from state politics.

Kupfer is active in 30 associations or is an honorary member. He is the President of the Landesschützenbund.
