Ulrich Lang

Ulrich Lang (born July 24, 1933 in Sulz am Neckar ; † February 16, 2018 in Michelbach an der Bilz ) was a German educator and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Lang was born the son of a pastor and dean. After attending primary school and graduating from high school in Heilbronn , he studied Protestant theology, German and Latin at the universities in Tübingen and Hamburg from 1953 to 1958 . He finished his studies in 1958 with the first and in 1959 with the second state examination for the higher teaching post, entered the Stuttgart school service in 1960 and later switched to a Heilbronn school. He then worked as a teacher at the Evangelical-Church Advanced School in Michelbach an der Bilz , most recently as Director of Studies and Deputy Headmaster.

Since 1952 he was a member of the AV Virtembergia Tübingen student association.

Political party

Lang initially joined the GVP , later switched to the SPD and mainly dealt with the educational issue. In May 1981 he was elected to succeed Erhard Eppler as state chairman of the SPD Baden-Württemberg . In May 1987 he was replaced by Ulrich Maurer in this role .

MP

Lang was a council member of the Michelbach community since 1968 and was elected to the district council of the Schwäbisch Hall district in 1971 . He was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg from 1972 to 1992. From 1976 to 1980 he was first deputy chairman and then from 1980 to 1988 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. In the state elections in 1984 he ran as the SPD's top candidate against Prime Minister Lothar Späth , but could not prevail with the party. From 1988 to 1992 he was again deputy chairman of the social democratic parliamentary group.
