Heinz Bühringer

Heinz Bühringer (* 5. May 1927 in Waiblingen , † 12. March 2016 ) was a German politician of the SPD .

education and profession

Heinz Bühringer was the son of a gardener. After graduating from primary school and attending grammar school, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and took part in World War II as an anti-aircraft helper and paratrooper in 1943/44 . At the end of the war he was forty percent damaged. He passed the Abitur at the secondary school in 1946, then completed an administration apprenticeship and continued his education at the administration school in 1950/51. Then he worked in the municipal administration.

Political activity

Heinz Bühringer was mayor of the municipality of Bittenfeld from 1953 to 1971 . From 1971 to 1984 he was a member of the district council in the Rems-Murr district and until 1988 council member of the city of Waiblingen.

In 1959 Bühringer joined the SPD and was a member of the state executive committee of the SPD Baden-Württemberg from 1965 to 1981 . As the successor to Walter Krause , he was elected state chairman of the SPD Baden-Württemberg in 1968. In this function he was replaced by Erhard Eppler in 1973 . With Heinz Bühringer as state chairman, the SPD Baden-Württemberg achieved the best result in its history in the 1972 state elections with 37.56%.

He was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg from 1964 to 1980. From 1968 to 1972 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group and from 1972 to 1976 he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group and chairman of the finance committee.

Other offices, honors and awards

From 1970 to 1980, Heinz Bühringer was director of the state development company for urban development and housing in Stuttgart . In addition, from 1970 to 1995 he was chairman of the board of directors of Süddeutscher Rundfunk .

In 1976 he received the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany and in 1978 the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg . In 1980 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
