Rudolf Schieler

Rudolf Schieler (born May 22, 1928 in Teningen ; † November 28, 2012 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German lawyer and politician of the SPD . From 1966 to 1972 he was Minister of Justice in Baden-Württemberg .

Rudolf Schieler was born on May 22nd, 1928 as the son of the politician Fritz Schieler . After attending the Realgymnasium in Freiburg im Breisgau , he studied law at the University of Freiburg , where he received his doctorate in 1955. jur. received his doctorate. He passed his state law examination in 1957. He then joined the Baden-Württemberg state service as an administrative lawyer. First he worked at the regional council in Freiburg and then at the Freiburg district administration.

Like his father, Rudolf Schieler was involved in the SPD. In 1960 he was elected as a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg and was thus a “colleague” of his father, who was also a member of the parliament until 1964. Here he was active in several committees, partly also as chairman. In the grand coalition under Prime Minister Hans Filbinger , Schieler was Minister of Justice from 1966 to 1972.

After the SPD left the state government, Schieler worked as a lawyer, he was also a member of the state parliament and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1973 to 1976 he was Walter Krause's successor as chairman. Schieler remained a member of the state parliament until 1980 and was then a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1984.

Schieler received, among other things, the Great Cross of Merit (1976) with Star (1984) from the Federal Republic of Germany and the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg (1980).

Schieler was widowed and had two sons. He died unexpectedly in Freiburg on the night of November 28, 2012.
