Helmut Ohnewald

Helmut Ohnewald (* 10. October 1936 in Schwabisch Gmund , † 17th October 2018 ) was a German politician of the CDU . In 1991/92 he was Minister of Justice of Baden-Württemberg .

Life

Ohnewald attended school in Schwäbisch Gmünd, which he left with the Abitur. He then studied law at the Universities of Tübingen and Munich . In 1959 he completed his studies and in 1963 took his assessor exam and the doctorate to Dr. jur. He then worked in the tax administration of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Finally in 1968 he became the personal advisor to Finance Minister Robert Gleichauf .

In 2001 he was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit .

Ohnewald was married and has two children.

Political activity

In 1980 he became a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg . He was also a member of the district council of the Ostalbkreis and the association assembly of the regional association of Ostwürttemberg .

After the resignation of Prime Minister Lothar Späth in 1991, his successor Erwin Teufel appointed him as Minister of Justice in his first cabinet. Shortly after the state elections in 1992, Ohnewald declared that he no longer wanted to belong to the new Teufels cabinet, which led a grand coalition . However, he exercised his state parliament mandate until 1996.
