Cabinet Milbradt II
The Milbradt II cabinet served as the Saxon state government from 2004 to 2008 . The election for the 4th Saxon state parliament on September 19, 2004 ended for the CDU, which had ruled alone until then, and its top candidate Georg Milbradt with the loss of an absolute majority in the state parliament . Compared to the 1999 state elections , the ruling party lost 15.8 percentage points and only received 41.1 percent of the valid second votes . The CDU Saxony remained the strongest parliamentary group in the state parliament, but was now dependent on a coalition partner for the first time.
In the 2nd session of the Saxon State Parliament on November 10, 2004, Georg Milbradt was elected Prime Minister by the MPs . A second ballot was necessary for this, as Milbradt missed the majority of the MPs (63 votes) with 62 votes allotted to him in the first ballot. The second ballot was successful because a simple majority was now sufficient to vote; Milbradt again received only 62 votes. Thus he lacked six votes from the ranks of the CDU / SPD - Coalition . The NPD candidate Uwe Leichsenring received 14 votes each in both ballots.
In the 3rd session of the state parliament on November 11, 2004, the ministers of state were sworn in before the state parliament . The SPD occupied the Ministry of Economics and Science, and its state chairman Thomas Jurk also served as deputy prime minister.
After two cabinet reshuffles in autumn 2007 had not brought lasting relief in the affair of the " Sachsen LB ", Georg Milbradt announced on May 27, 2008 his resignation from the office of Prime Minister. The previous Finance Minister Stanislaw Tillich was elected as his successor one day later .
The “Milbradt II cabinet” remained in office until the new state government formed by Stanislaw Tillich took office on June 18, 2008.
