Horst Metz

Horst Metz (born July 6, 1945 in Groß Laasch , Ludwigslust district , Mecklenburg ) is a German politician (formerly CDU ). From 1990 to 2009 he was a member of the Saxon State Parliament and from 2002 to 2007 Saxon Minister of State for Finance .

Life

After graduating from high school in Ludwigslust in 1964, he learned the profession of hydraulic engineering specialist. From 1965 to 1970 he studied civil engineering at the TU Dresden . He then completed a research degree and received his doctorate in 1972. From 1972 to 1987 he worked as a research assistant in the Upper Elbe water management department . Since 1987 department head of the VEB water supply and wastewater treatment (WAB) Dresden, he became head of the department environmental protection at the district administration authority Dresden in 1990 .

Metz is married and has one son.

Metz joined the Eastern CDU in 1968 . In 1990 and 1991, Metz was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Saxon State Ministry for the Environment and Regional Development .

From 1990 to 2009 he was a member of the Saxon State Parliament, into which he was drawn through the direct mandate in the Saxon Switzerland 2 constituency . From October 1999 to May 2002 he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group . From May 2, 2002 to September 30, 2007 he was Saxon State Minister of Finance in the Milbradt I and Milbradt II cabinets .

As a result of the affair surrounding the loss-making activities of Sachsen LB on the US real estate market, Horst Metz resigned as Saxon State Minister of Finance on September 30, 2007 at a meeting of the Saxon state parliament. Stanislaw Tillich was his successor .

In the state elections in 2009 , Metz no longer applied for a state parliament mandate and thus left the state parliament in September 2009.

In December 2016, because of Angela Merkel's renewed candidacy for chancellor, Metz left the CDU after 48 years of party membership.
