Matthias Haß (politician)

Matthias Haß (born April 18, 1967 in Stade ) is a German administrative lawyer and politician ( CDU ). From December 18, 2017 to December 20, 2019, he was Minister of State for Finance of the Free State of Saxony .

Life

After attending school, Haß began studying Protestant theology and law at the universities in Kiel and Münster in 1988 , which he completed in 1993 with the first state examination in law. In 1997 he passed the second state examination in law at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court . In the same year he was at the University of Münster with the dissertation topic The acquisition of church membership according to Protestant and Catholic church law. A study of state-canonical, canonical and theological rather remuneration of church membership to a doctor of law doctorate .

After his admission as a lawyer , Haß was employed in a large law firm specializing in commercial law in 1997/98. In 1998 he joined the Saxon State Ministry of Finance. There he was initially a consultant in the budget department and from 2000 to 2001 head of the State Secretary's office of Wolfgang Voss . From 2002 he took over the management of the ministerial offices of Thomas de Maizière in the Saxon State Ministry of Finance and then from 2002 to 2003 in the Saxon State Ministry of Justice . From 2003 to 2006 he headed the department for federal and European affairs in the Saxon State Ministry of Finance.

Haß moved to the Federal Chancellery in 2006 , where he was group leader for “Social Policy, Education and Research, and Affairs of the New States” until 2010. From there he moved to the Federal Ministry of Finance at the beginning of 2010 as head of the “Fundamental Issues of Financial Policy” sub-department . From 2011 to August 2014 he headed the management staff (management and communication staff) and then, as ministerial director until December 18, 2017, he headed the department for federal financial relations, state and constitutional law and legal affairs in the Federal Ministry of Finance.

On December 18, 2017, Haß was appointed Saxon State Minister of Finance by Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer .

On December 18, 2019, Haß announced that he would no longer be available as minister for another term and thus for the new cabinet. Hartmut Vorjohann is his successor as Saxon State Minister of Finance .
