GBI-Genios Deutsche Wirtschaftsdatenbank GmbH is a commercial provider ( host ) of electronic press, company and business information in full text . The portal is aimed primarily at libraries and companies . GBI-Genios is a subsidiary of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Handelsblatt Media Group (formerly the Handelsblatt publishing group). It is the market leader in Germany in its field.

history

Since the merger in 2005, the database host has bundled the data offers from GBI (German Business Information) and Genios (Handelsblatt Group). Both companies had been on the market as information aggregators (database hosts) for decades (GBI since 1978, Genios since 1985). Unlike real-time systems that supply bankers with exchange rates and financial data, both hosts specialize in the so-called near-time area : editorially processed information such as that provided by newspapers and magazines. In addition, GBI offered scientifically prepared information from the start ( bibliographies , summaries, topic dossiers ) and with the product wiso quickly became the market leader in the German-speaking higher education sector . Genios, on the other hand, had its own "own" content with the Handelsblatt database, which could be marketed exclusively.

Today's company GBI-Genios is a subsidiary of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung GmbH and the Handelsblatt Media Group in equal parts. It exclusively bundles the electronic archives of the two daily newspapers. With more than 30 years of experience, GBI-Genios is one of the pioneers in the marketing of electronic archives, also on an international scale.

Databases

Corporate and private customers can research primarily German sources via an Internet portal. GBI-Genios is a partner of various publishers, news producers and research institutions. The spectrum of data offered therefore ranges from 300 full-text newspapers to 60 million company information items to e-books, topic dossiers and working aids for daily practice. In addition, redistribution rights can be acquired for most sources.

The use of the full-text documents found is remunerated per article or at a flat rate. GBI-Genios pays part of the compensation amount to the respective authors and rights holders.

GBI-Genios bundles all near-time types of German-language business information, supplemented by international content. The total of around 1,000 sources can be roughly divided into the areas of daily and weekly press, company, personal, industry and market information, specialist press, literature references and practical tools. The focus is on the corporate sector and the press.

The spectrum of company information includes credit reports, company profiles, annual financial statements and balance sheets as well as commercial register announcements, holdings, brands and products. Sources from well-known providers such as Bundesanzeiger , Creditreform , Dun & Bradstreet and Hoppenstedt are supported by specialist providers such as B. Trademark service and bedirect added.

In the daily and weekly press, Genios has over 300 sources, 180 of which are in German and 120 in English (56% from the USA, 32% from Europe and 13% from Asia and Africa). The 450 specialist press sources are divided into 25 industries and eleven operational functional areas as well as four scientific areas.

Own offers such as Genios Wirtschaftswissen (summaries on current business topics), the databases Genios Statistics (market and industry information) and Bliss (business literature database) as well as Genios Industry Knowledge (reports on the 15 core sectors of the German economy) complete the offer.
