Dun & Bradstreet ( D&B ) is the world's largest service provider for business-to-business economic information. The company's headquarters is located in the US Short Hills in New Jersey . The group employs around 4,900 people and looks after over 150,000 customers. The global D&B network is a partnership between Dun & Bradstreet and regional providers of business information. The local D&B national companies are represented in over 40 countries.

Central business areas of D&B

  • Country Risk Services - Assessment of country risks.
  • Risk Management Solutions (RMS) - assessment of business risks.
  • Sales & Marketing Solutions (S&MS) - Acquisition of potential new customers.
  • Supply Management Solutions (SMS) - Creation of transparency in strategic purchasing.

Companies around the world can access company data and assessments of their customers, suppliers or potential business partners via the D&B database. According to D&B, the database contains information on more than 170 million companies in over 200 countries and 4.5 million companies in Germany. 1.8 million pieces of data are updated around the world every day, 120,000 of them in Germany alone.
The company information on the database contains, for example, general information about the company (turnover, number of employees, industry), business development or possible corporate ties. In addition, the payment behavior of companies is monitored. This information flows into insolvency forecasts, credit ratings and loan recommendations. The score is also included in the company information. This value is calculated on the basis of statistical methods and predicts the risk that a company will either become insolvent or cease its business activities within the next 12 months without having paid all creditors. To calculate the score, D&B uses demographic data, financial data and objective payment experiences to predict the default risk.

The assignment of all information to the companies in the database is clear from the DUNS number introduced by D&B in 1962 . In Germany, the DUNS number is recommended and used as a standard by the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the Association of the Chemical Industry (VCI), the European Commission and the ISO .

D&B Germany

D&B has been active in Germany for more than 100 years. In 1937, the Schimmelpfeng credit agency took over the German subsidiary of RG Dun & Co. After the war, Dun & Bradstreet founded another German subsidiary in 1949 as Dun Europa GmbH (from 1960 as Dun & Bradstreet GmbH). This in turn was taken over by the Schimmelpfeng credit agency in 1984. In 2004, Bonnier Business Information (now Bisnode ) took over the D&B businesses in ten European countries as a franchise, including Germany. The head office was relocated from Frankfurt to Darmstadt. In 2013 the company was merged with Bisnode Germany and the D&B brand was largely withdrawn from the market. Bisnode continues to offer the products. In order to establish trade relations with the United States, the listing by name is e.g. B. at Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) is a prerequisite.

On October 1, 2003, the US federal government required that all US government business partners (“entities”) have a D&B ® DUNS ® number as a unique integrated purchase number in order to do business with the government. This affects all companies that do business with the American government on the one hand and all recipients of US government subsidies on the other.

D&B Switzerland

In Switzerland, D&B is represented in all language areas. The head office is in Urdorf , with further branches in Lugano and Lausanne . Here, too, a rebranding on Bisnode took place in 2013 .

D&B Austria

D&B has had its own branch in Austria since 1977. The company headquarters are in Vienna . Here, too, a rebranding on Bisnode took place in 2013.
