Tracy Chevalier (born October 19, 1962 ) is an American writer. She writes historical novels .

Life

Tracy Chevalier was raised in Washington, DC, the youngest of three children . Her father was a photographer for the Washington Post. She attended Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda , Maryland . At Oberlin College she graduated with Bachelor of Arts in English.

In 1984 she moved to London, where she worked as an editor . In 1993 she completed a one-year Masters course in creative writing at the University of East Anglia with authors Malcolm Bradbury and Rose Tremain .

In 1999 List published the girl with the pearl earring (original title: Girl With a Pearl Earring), which she wrote in 1998 in just eight months. Two weeks later she had her son. The novel became one of the most internationally successful books of the year and was filmed in 2003 by British director Peter Webber (German distribution title: The Girl with a Pearl Earring ).

Tracy Chevalier lives in London with her husband and son.
