August Emil Nitzsche (often just: Emil Nitzsche ; * May 14, 1869 in Kleinwolmsdorf near Radeberg ; † May 31, 1931 in Dresden ) was a German politician ( SPD ). He was Saxon Finance Minister and a member of the Landtag of the Kingdom of Saxony and the Free State of Saxony .

Life

Nitzsche, son of a farmer , attended elementary school and then completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith . He was active in this profession until 1897 - interrupted only by his military service (1890-1892). Nitzsche joined the metal workers' union and the SPD in the late 1880s. From July 1897 to 1921 he was editor of the Sächsische Arbeiterzeitung and the Dresdner Volkszeitung .

Nitzsche was elected city councilor in Dresden in 1906 and was a member of the city council assembly until 1921. He was a member of its legal and administrative committee and from 1916 to 1919 as secretary and from 1919 to 1921 as head of the board of the Dresden city council.

From 1908 to 1918 and 1919/20 and again from 1920 to 1923 Nitzsche was also a member of the Saxon state parliament and the Saxon People's Chamber . From January to October 1919 he served as finance minister in the cabinet of Georg Gradnauer (SPD).

In November 1921, Nitzsche took over the office of third (paid) mayor of the city of Dresden, which he held until his retirement in 1927. In this function, he was, among other things, head of the housing and rent cleaning office. Nitzsche was also a member of the supervisory board of the Dresden settlement company, the board of directors of the Lingner Foundation and the board of directors of the Dresden City and State Municipal Association, the Society for the Promotion of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the German Hygiene Museum . In the German Association of Cities he represented the city of Dresden in the main committee.

Nitzsche was the author of a number of popular political agitation pamphlets.
