Saxon biography

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Saxon Biography (also SaeBi or SaeBi for short ) is a personal history lexicon on the history of Saxony that was created in 1999 and is constantly being expanded . The project is supervised by the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore in Dresden and offers life data and short biographies on important people in Saxon history. Historical personalities that have so far been neglected should also be treated in detail, with the project defining relevance criteria as well as temporal and spatial limits. Deceased personalities who have worked in and for Saxony over a shorter or longer period of time are recorded. Martina Schattkowsky was the scientific director .

The Saxon Biography is designed as a long-term project that is supervised by several academic staff and students. The short biographies are used by established historians such as B. Enno Bünz , Siegfried Hoyer or Reiner Pommerin as well as young and hobby historians and students. The entries have been made available on the Internet free of charge since June 2005, and since May 2012 they have been researchable in the biography portal .

So far, the life data of over 10,000 people have been recorded, over 1,600 of them with a short biography. The personal articles are provided with GND numbers and are linked to other works via these. In contrast to the joint online presence of the ADB and NDB offered by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek , the Saxon biography also links to articles on Wikipedia using the GND beacon format .
