In 2002, Röpke was appointed to the Scherf II Senate as the successor to the fatally injured Senator Hilde Adolf as Senator for Labor, Women, Health, Youth and Social Affairs. Mayor Henning Scherf also appointed her to the Senate Scherf III after the mayor's elections on May 25, 2003 .

On October 11, 2006, Röpke assumed political responsibility for the death of a child cared for by the social welfare authorities and resigned from her position.
