Foster father

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Austria and in the landscape, a foster father is a man who temporarily or permanently takes in a child from other parents and takes the place of the father by looking after and raising the foster child .

The term is now considered out of date and is sometimes used synonymously with stepfather or foster father , whereby their legal situation can be considered unambiguous. A stepfather or stepmother is automatically referred to as someone who is married to a parent of the stepchild. A foster father or foster mother , on the other hand, has a separate legal position. In addition, the foster father must be distinguished from the adoptive father .

In the past, the foster father was sometimes referred to using the term foster father , which is also considered out of date .

The term in the meaning of the foster father in the father role should not be confused with the derived, second meaning of the term as foster father in the mentor role, with which a supportive companion with a role model effect ( mentor , teacher , academic teacher) is designated. See also the term doctoral supervisor .
