About this picture

Lohfelden is a municipality in the northern Hessian district of Kassel , it is in the area of influence of the directly neighboring regional center Kassel , with which it also shares industrial and new construction areas. The historic town centers of Crumbach and Vollmarshausen are characterized by half-timbered houses and as a whole are under monument protection.

geography

The Wahlebach (Fahrenbach) flows through the districts of Vollmarshausen and Ochshausen . The Söhre , a wooded low mountain range, borders on Lohfelden to the south . There are large deposits of sand in the municipality; a. Wall sand, cleaning sand and grit. Some of the pits were filled with excavated earth and rubble and today forms the mountain Tannenkopf . All three historic centers are located in the valley of Bächen, Vollmarshausen and Ochshausen am Wahlebach, Crumbach am Wälzebach.

Development

The main street between Crumbach and Ochshausen was laid out as the new town center , to the south of which is Lange Straße , which ends at the town hall, where the multi-purpose hall and the comprehensive school are also located. Between the districts of Crumbach and Lohfelden there is a park called "Green Center". Due to the size of the community area, buildings are only densely built in the old town centers, Lohfelden is generally more characterized by spacious streets with residential developments as well as adjacent commercial areas and green spaces. The residential development goes seamlessly into Kassel (Forstfeld) and Kaufungen (paper mill), as does the commercial area with Kassel-Waldau.

structure

The municipality of Lohfelden consists of the districts Crumbach , Ochshausen and Vollmarshausen as well as the two industrial areas Kassel-Waldau and the Lohfeldener Rüssel , which are largely located in the municipality.

Neighboring communities

Lohfelden / Vollmarshausen borders in the northwest on the independent city of Kassel , in the northeast and east on the municipality of Kaufungen , in the south on the municipality of Söhrewald , in the west on the municipality of Fuldabrück (all three in the Kassel district). The community is counted to the "urban zone" of the city of Kassel.

history

Söhrestrasse in the settlement

In the 10th and 11th centuries, the cleared areas to the east of Kassel were given to colonists, and the fields and land were given long leases. These were later given away by the emperor to monasteries. The St. Alban Abbey in front of Mainz owned 1008 rights in Crumbach in the 14th and 15th centuries, then the Archbishop of Mainz , the Kaufungen Abbey, the Weißenstein and Ahnaberg monasteries , the St. Martin 's monastery and the Carmelite monastery. The three places Vollmarshausen, Crumbach and Ochshausen had a common court on the linden tree in Vollmarshausen .

The farmers in the three villages were mostly part-time farmers and earned their living as artisans. The reason for the minor importance of agriculture for the local economy was inheritance law, which made it possible to divide the country. Agriculture was often only practiced for personal use. With the establishment of a large locksmith's shop, industrialization began as early as 1750. The Brothers Grimm visited the three villages in the 1820s; a drawing by Ludwig Emil Grimm showing Crumbach in late summer has been preserved from 1821, another drawing can be assigned to the church of Vollmarshausen.

As early as 1850, the previously rural areas began to change and urbanization began. From then on, part of the population preferred to work in companies in Kassel, or they oriented their business towards them. The subsequent death of the court therefore had hardly any economic consequences. In 1912 the Söhrebahn was put into operation.

On June 1, 1941, the two municipalities of Crumbach and Ochshausen were merged to form the new municipality of Lohfelden by resolution of the Oberpräsident in Kassel. The name goes back to the field names "Auf dem Loh" and "Lohfeld". This describes the gardens and corridors between Crumbach and Vollmarshausen. Fieseler Flugzeugbau Kassel , known for building the Fieseler Storch, was located in the area of the municipality, at what was then the Kassel airfield . The street Am Fieseler Werk is a reminder of this to this day .

The settlement was built between the two districts ; it was planned as early as 1919 and was then realized at the end of the 1930s based on designs by Hannsgeorg Oechler . The architectural design was as an urban garden city with classicist quotations. The reason for the planning was the development of Lohfelden into a Kassel suburb. In the final stage, the settlement should have 12,000 inhabitants and also house a district hospital. Areas in the Fulda valley in the direction of Kassel were deliberately kept free in order not to disturb future local recreation areas with a sea of houses. Ultimately, the construction of the motorway (today's A 7) cut unrestricted access to these areas. Although a town hall was inaugurated in 1951, the Second World War had made the ambitious plans for a large garden city obsolete. In 1966 the Söhrebahn was discontinued and the route was converted into a cycle path and green spaces.

In Lohfelden, the Deutsche Bundespost operated the basic network station Kassel for the second television program from 1961 to 1964 . With the commissioning of the Söhrewald transmitter , the plant was shut down and the 50 m high steel lattice mast was dismantled. The street name Am Sender is reminiscent of the location where there is now a smaller steel lattice mast for mobile communications.

Territorial reform

On December 1, 1970 , as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the communities of Vollmarshausen and Lohfelden voluntarily merged to form the large community of Lohfelden. The new town hall was built on Lange Straße between the previous Lohfelden and Vollmarshausen. Kassel strove to incorporate the rich suburb and submitted corresponding applications to the Ministry of the Interior. With two votes (one in the municipal council and one in a public assembly), Lohfelden was able to prove the opposite will of the people, but in return had to cede some of the districts to Kassel in 1975. Together with the city of Kassel, two business parks were developed in 1971 and 2009.

Population development

The Kassel region has generally seen a decline in population. On the other hand, Lohfelden is with just over 6% after Baunatal the community with the second largest increase in population between 1995 and 2006. Both places are also the only ones in the region that show continuous growth.

religion

The Catholic St. Johannes Bosco Congregation on Langen Strasse

The Reformation was officially introduced in 1526 with the Homberg Synod. There is the Evangelical Church Community Lohfelden for the districts Crumbach and Ochshausen and the Evangelical Church Community Vollmarshausen . The eastern part of the Kassel-Land parish has been part of the Kaufungen parish since 1982. The expanding industry of Kassel led to an influx of Catholics, for example from the Westerwald and Saarland. From 1939 Catholic services were held in the Protestant church in Crumbach, the new St. Johannes Bosco church was inaugurated at Christmas 1949, followed in 1977 by a new building designed by Josef Bieling .

household

Until 2009 Lohfelden had a steady budget. For the first time for 2010, a budget was presented that is not balanced. Of the 24.5 million euros, 1.5 million were taken from the reserve, which was thus used up to 1 million. The largest single items were the development of the Lindenberg development area, sewer rehabilitation, construction work in the outdoor pool / panorama area and road renovations. The cause was an unexpected drop in trade tax by 3 million euros.

A year later, the originally planned deficit of 1.1 million euros was closed with a surplus of 142,000 euros, a contract with Kassel after the assignment of land only had a term of 35 years for participation in trade tax, but this began (and thus ended) Year later than expected, as the parish treasurer inquired.

In October 2012, a surplus of 490,000 euros was reported for the year just ended

Gibert : In the thriller Nervenflattern “the address in Lohfelden in the southwest of Kassel turned out to be a lonely two-family house at the end of a cul-de-sac.” In circus air: Lenz's third case is about a suspect who at times was reported in Lohfelden.

Two folk tales have their origin or references to Lohfelden-Crumbach: The apparition in Crumbach and the fairy tale of one who set out to learn to fear .

Road traffic

In the north-south direction, the A 7 leads past Lohfelden, the A 44 branches off at the Kassel Süd triangle and the A 49 at the Kasseler Kreuz Mitte. The A 7 separates Kassel from Lohfelden to the east. The B 7 leads north towards Kaufungen. The Kassel Ost motorway service station is on the municipal area, as is the Lohfeldener Rüssel truck stop .

Lohfelden is directly connected to the neighboring municipalities of Kassel (Waldau), Kaufungen (Niederkaufungen), Söhrewald (Wellerode) and Fuldabrück (Bergshausen) via main roads. The distance to the center of Kassel is 5.5 km.

Rail transport

The Söhrebahn ran through the village until 1966 . The reactivation of the route to Vollmarshausen, which had been converted into a cycle path, as a tram was rejected by the municipality. Criticisms of the old plan from 1998 are the only partial connection of the place, an alternative in the new discussion since 2010 is the continuation via Vollmarshausen to Söhrewald, so that bus routes can also be replaced.

An industrial trunk line has been leading into the industrial area since 1983 . In 2001 a freight center (GVZ) was built there, which in 2004 achieved a throughput of 11,841 wagons.

Local public transport

The bus lines 35 and 37 of the DB Regio Bus Mitte run every 7–8 minutes to Lohfelden during rush hour. The journey time from Königsplatz to Vollmarshausen with line 37 is 25 minutes.

Economic structure

The structural change from a rural area to an urban settlement took place as early as the 19th century. Previous farmers adjusted to the needs of the young industry and workshops. The Crumbacher Müle was built in Crumbach, from which Kassel was supplied with flour. For a long time, the Fieseler-Werke were an important employer, after 1945 the Adam Richter machine factory was built near what is now the center of the town , after the company was sold to the Quandt Group, Alstom took over the site and produced chemical plants, and in 2011 it was acquired by ZEED New Energy GmbH . From 1985 to 1991 ERK Solartechnik manufactured electric vehicles in Lohfelden.

In 1971 the development of the Kassel-Waldau industrial park began , which is mainly located in the municipality. From 1665 employees in 1975 the number rose to 4100 in 2002. From 2009, the city of Kassel again opened up a second industrial park, the Lohfeldener Rüssel . The term goes back to the beginning of the A 49 , which is colloquially called that. This is also known for the truck stop of the same name. In the new 205,000 m² industrial area, u. a. Mechanical engineering companies, hotels and truck service centers are located.
