Freight center
Freight Villages (GVZ) (English Freight Village (FV); in some cases synonymous: goods distribution center ) are logistics centers where goods between different modes of transport transhipped for charges collected and prepared for transport rides. Different modes of transport (e.g. road, rail ), transport companies ( freight forwarders , warehouses ), traffic-supplementary service providers ( vehicle service, Consulting services) as well as logistics-intensive industrial and trading companies brought together and networked. The spatial proximity promotes cooperation and the division of labor between the companies located there . As a rule, the GVZ have a CT terminal in which containers , swap bodies or semi-trailers can be handled .
GVZ thus fulfill an important function in the processing of politically funded combined transport and the shift of long-distance freight transport from road to rail. The cooperation of the resident companies enables a higher utilization of truck journeys, especially in the regional area (see City-Logistik ); by synergies between the companies based their cost and service can be improved ( clustering ). Ideally, GVZ should be located in the vicinity of metropolitan areas with favorable connections to regional and long-distance traffic.
