The Bremen Freight Transport Center (GVZ Bremen) is the largest freight transport center in Germany. The center extends over an area of ​​472 hectares in Bremen-Strom in the immediate vicinity of the Neustädter Hafen . It provides around 1.2 million square meters of hall space for currently around 150 companies. The BLG Logistics Group's largest high-rise warehouse in Europe is located in the GVZ . The center provides an integrated KLV ( Combined Transport ) terminal and a feeder service via Neustädter Hafen. Around 8,000 people work in the GVZ companies.

The center is operated by GVZ Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH . It also represents the interests of companies based in the GVZ.

Location and environment

The location of the GVZ Bremen is favorable in terms of transport logistics. With the opening of the JadeWeserPort , Bremen is at the center of the three most important German ports of Bremerhaven , Wilhelmshaven and Hamburg .

Several rail lines lead into the GVZ and are connected via the Bremen-Neustadt train station to the Bremen central station and the routes to Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Oldenburg, the JadeWeserPort and to the south.

Via the Neustädter Hafen , the GVZ is directly connected by the federal waterway Unterweser via Bremerhaven with the North Sea and the feeder services .

The GVZ Bremen was built from 1985 onwards in the districts of Seehausen and Strom as well as the district of harbors . The GVZ covers 472 hectares, half of which has been occupied (as of 2012).

The areas of today's GVZ were criss-crossed by ditches of the typical Bremen marshland. Mainly water birds and waders breed in the area. In the wide shrubbery and reed areas, among other things, the bag tit brooded . These biotopes were destroyed by the development as an industrial area. As a compensatory measure, the Ochtum lowlands near Brokhuchting in the Bremen Wesermarsch , crossed by the new and old Ochtum , were placed under protection from 1998.
