  • The federal autobahn 281 (abbreviation: BAB 281 ) - short form: Autobahn 281 (abbreviation: A 281 ) - is an approximately eleven kilometer long autobahn in Bremen that currently consists of two sections . After completion, the A 281 with the Bremen Weser Tunnel will close a ring around Bremen north of the Bremen ports and Gröpelingen.

After completion, the motorway will be around 20 km long and with two lanes in each direction connect the A 27 from the Bremen-Industriehäfen motorway triangle via Woltmershausen to the Bremen / Arsten junction of the A 1 , which is more urgent in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 and in the requirement plan from the end of 2016 Demand or is marked as ongoing and firmly planned.

1st section: from the A 27 to the industrial port (in operation since 1995)

The first and shortest, two kilometer long section in Burg-Grambke between the Bremen-Industriehäfen motorway triangle and the “ Beim Industriehafen ” road was completed in 1995.

2nd section: from industrial port to GVZ (under construction)

    Construction phases 3.2 and 4

The longest and most complex section is to lead from the industrial harbor to the Bremen freight center (GVZ) on Seehauser Landstrasse. The section at the GVZ from Strom to Seehausen (construction section 3.2) was built from April 2009 and has been under traffic since September 29, 2014. A new Weser tunnel is required to close the gap (construction phase 4) . The tunnel segments are to be swum in; 6 houses have to be demolished for the driveways for this variant. On January 15, 2016, the Federal Constitutional Court did not accept a constitutional complaint in this regard and therefore rejected it. The 4.9-kilometer-long gap closure is included as a Weser crossing project in the urgent needs of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 and the demand plan from the end of 2016. On April 13, 2017, the Federal Ministry of Transport announced the conventional way of funding from the federal budget. In February 2017, subject to the expected agreement or coordination with the residents of Holcim and ArcelorMittal Bremen, a possible start of construction was expected for the end of 2017, and traffic opening was Template: future / in 3 yearsplanned for the end of 2023 . An agreement was reached with AMB in 2017. In March 2018, a building permit was planned for the end of 2018 and construction to begin in 2018 or early 2019. On January 10, 2019, the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the Weser crossing took place.

Section 3: from GVZ to the airport (in operation since 2008)

    Construction phases 2.1 and 3.1

The section between Stromer Landstrasse and Neuenlander Strasse was put into operation on January 30, 2008 by Bremen's Mayor Jens Böhrnsen and the parliamentary state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport Achim Großmann .

In the area of the airport embankment , the motorway is led as an elevated road over a long cable-stayed bridge due to the complex building site situation and road crossings . There, Bremer Straßenbahn AG received a covered parking space under the motorway to compensate for the storage space provided for building materials. At the same time, the difficult founding conditions in the course of the Neuenlander Wasserlöse are overcome.

The relocation of through traffic from the residential area of Neuenlander Straße (old route of the B 6) is particularly advantageous, contrary to initial planning as a result of substantial public protests, to an industrial area and via the former Warturm household waste dump. The planning sins of the alignment of the B 6 between the Bremen-Oldenburg railway line with the demolition of residential buildings on Neckarstrasse and immediately next to the remaining neighboring residential areas from the period around 1970 were thus not repeated.

4th section: from the airport to the A1 near Arsten (planned)

    Construction phase 2.2

The 2.2 kilometer long section from Bremen-Airport-Stadt to Kattenturm (to the existing Arsten motorway feeder, which is also run as the B 6n ) is included in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 as ongoing and permanently scheduled . In the plan approval procedure, the supplemented documents were disclosed again in 2017. In 2017, an overall noise report was drawn up and its display is planned. In March 2018, the final building permit was granted, but construction was only expected to start in 2018 under optimal circumstances. In July 2020, the Federal Administrative Court dismissed the actions of several residents against the planning approval decision.

B 6 new: from the airport to the A 1 near Brinkum (planned)

This connection from the A 281 at the airport to the A 1 at Brinkum is also planned. They see citizens' initiatives with a tunnel under the airport as a replacement for the 4th section of the A 281 to Arsten, which they consider superfluous. The Bremen Senate advocates the construction of a tunnel under the airport, as an above-ground route would only be possible around the airport, which would be much longer and would lead past a residential area. A tunnel solution is too expensive for the federal government. As in August 2013, in December 2016 there was no agreement in sight to define the route.
