The federal motorway 37 (abbreviation: BAB 37 or A 37 ) is a two-part motorway that acts as a feeder to the city of Hanover and to the Hanover exhibition center. The northern section between Burgdorf and Hanover-Misburg is popularly referred to as the moor motorway because of its location in the Altwarmbüchener Moor , the section of the exhibition grounds - AD Hannover-Süd is called the exhibition spigot . The motorway has two lanes in both directions on both sections.

The two sections are connected by the Messeschnellweg , which is part of Bundesstraße 3 in the northern section (between junction 5 Hannover-Misburg and Seelhorster Kreuz ) and part of the southern section (between Seelhorster Kreuz and junction 11 Hanover exhibition grounds) Bundesstrasse 6 .

The southern section, the exhibition connection, represents a pivoting between the northern part of the B 6 (and indirectly the B 3) and the southern part of the A 7. The connection ramps to the other parts of the B 6 and A 7 are missing from the connection ramps . On the other hand, all routes between A 7 and B 6 are accessible via federal highway 443 .

Planning history

The original plan from 1974 envisaged that the A 37 should get its northern end point on the B 3 south of Bergen and be led via Celle and Hanover to Hildesheim. The plan of the law on the expansion of federal highways from 1971 to 1985, passed on June 30, 1971, did not yet provide for the construction of a federal motorway between Bergen and Hildesheim. However, the following projects were included:

Name of the street section comment Urgency level
B3 south of Bergen - north-west of Celle four-lane expansion using the existing route III
B3 / B214 Celle bypass four-lane new building I.
B3 (B188) south of Celle - west of Burgdorf four-lane new building II
B3 (A7) west of Burgdorf - Kreuz Hannover / Kirchhorst four-lane new building I.
B3 Hannover / Kirchhorst cross - Hannover-Buchholz cross six-lane new building I.
B3 Hannover-Buchholz cross - Hannover pasture gate six-lane new building ongoing project
B3 ( Bundesstrasse 65 ). Hannover Weidetor - Seelhorster junction new six-lane building using the existing two-lane route II
B6 (A376) Seelhorster Kreuz - triangle Hanover exhibition grounds six-lane new building I.
B6 (B1) Hanover Exhibition Center - Hildesheim-Berliner Strasse four-lane expansion using the existing route II

With the restructuring and new numbering of the network of federal motorways, which took effect from January 1, 1975, the individual projects for the expansion and construction of federal highways became the uniform route as a federal motorway under the designation "A 37" Bergen - Celle - Hanover - Hildesheim created. However, this plan only lasted a year and a half. While the A 37 between Bergen and Hildesheim was still included as planning in the network maps in January 1976, this changed fundamentally with the law amending the law on the expansion of federal trunk roads from 1971 to 1985 from August 5, 1976. The entire section from Bergen via Celle to Burgdorf (B 188) has been removed from the A 37 planning. The four-lane expansion was completely dispensed with between Bergen and northwest of Celle. A bypass was only planned for Groß Hehlen near Celle in urgency level Ib. The Celle bypass in the northern part was still intended for the new four-lane construction in the course of the A 32 , but only with two lanes in urgency level Ia; the addition of the 2nd carriageway was included in the further requirements. The south-eastern continuation of this bypass was only included as a new two-lane federal road, but included in urgency level Ia. The section south of Celle to west of Bergen was to be implemented in two lanes as the B 3n as a further requirement. The requirements plan also provided for the following sub-projects for the A 37:

Name of the street section comment Urgency level
A7 west of Burgdorf - Kreuz Hannover / Kirchhorst four-lane new building In
A2 Hannover / Kirchhorst cross - Hannover-Buchholz cross four-lane new building Yes
A2 Cross Hannover-Buchholz - Hannover Misburg four-lane new building ongoing project
A376 Hannover Weidetor - triangle Hannover exhibition grounds four-lane expansion using the existing route Yes
Triangle Hanover Exhibition Center four-lane expansion using the existing route Ib

At the time of the passing of the second law amending the law on the expansion of federal highways from 1971 to 1985 from August 25, 1980, the sections of the A 37 between Burgdorf and Hannover-Misburg and between Hannover-Weidetor and Dreieck Hannover-Messegelände were already in place tackled. The Hanover exhibition grounds - Hildesheim section was deleted from the requirements plan as part of the A 37. The A 376, which was intended to be renamed the A 30 Minden - Stadthagen - Hanover in the 1970s , was rededicated as the A 37 with the deletion of this section of the A 30 and the Hanover - Hildesheim route of the A 37. Incidentally, the following projects for the construction and expansion of federal roads were found in the requirement plan, which essentially corresponded to the original A 37 plan:

Name of the street section comment Urgency level
B3 Groß Hehlen - Celle - northwest of Otze two-lane new building I.
B3 northwest Otze - west Burgdorf two-lane new building
B6 Hanover exhibition grounds - Hildesheim four-lane expansion II

In the third law amending the law on the expansion of trunk roads of April 21, 1986, new construction measures for the A 37 were not planned. The following federal trunk road construction and expansion projects, which essentially corresponded to the original A 37 plan, remained in the requirements plan:

Name of the street section project comment
B3 Groß Hehlen bypass two-lane new building as a further need
B3 Celle bypass two-lane new building ongoing project
B3 Celle - west of Burgdorf two-lane expansion as a further need

Even after the fourth law amending the law of 15 November 1993, no new construction measures were added for the A 37. The following federal road construction and expansion projects, which essentially corresponded to the original A 37 planning, were to be implemented:

Name of the street section comment Urgency level
B3 south of Bergen - north-west of Celle four-lane expansion using the existing route III
B3 / B214 Celle bypass four-lane new building I.
B3 (B188) south of Celle - west of Burgdorf four-lane new building II
B3 (A7) west of Burgdorf - Kreuz Hannover / Kirchhorst four-lane new building I.
B3 Hannover / Kirchhorst cross - Hannover-Buchholz cross six-lane new building I.
B3 Hannover-Buchholz cross - Hannover pasture gate six-lane new building ongoing project
B3 ( Bundesstrasse 65 ). Hannover Weidetor - Seelhorster junction new six-lane building using the existing two-lane route II
B6 (A376) Seelhorster Kreuz - triangle Hanover exhibition grounds six-lane new building I.
B6 (B1) Hanover Exhibition Center - Hildesheim-Berliner Strasse four-lane expansion using the existing route II

The Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2003 still does not provide for any new construction projects for the A 37. The following federal road construction and expansion projects, which essentially corresponded to the original A 37 planning, were still included:

B3 OU Celle north part two-lane new building urgent need in planning.
B3 OU Celle middle part four-lane new building urgent need Planning decision: Complaints before the Higher Administrative Court pending decision not comprehensible
B3 OU Celle southern part two-lane new building urgent need completed
B3 south of Celle - Ehlershausen two-lane new building urgent need completed

Completed sections

In the 1950s, the Messeschnellweg was built as the east bypass of Hanover (B 3 / B 6) (1950: horse tower - exhibition center, 1952: exhibition center - Sarstedt ). From the 1960s, the motorway-like expansion began, in the course of which the intersections were designed without a plan and the lanes were expanded. In 1998, as the last measure, the horse tower crossing was replaced by a junction. In the first half of the 1960s, the feeder route between the Hanover-Messegelände triangle and Hanover-Süd triangle was opened to traffic, which was initially designated as the A 376 from 1975 to 1980. The following sections that were originally intended to be part of the A 37 were also opened to traffic:

year section km comment
1981 Cross Hannover Kirchhorst - Hannover-Misburg 5.7 four lanes dedicated as B3
1982 AS Burgdorf or Moormühle - Hannover / Kirchhorst junction 4.7 four lanes, dedicated as B3
1999 Ehlershausen - AS Burgdorf or Moormühle 12 four-lane new building and expansion, dedicated as B3
2009 south of Celle-Ehlershausen 7.4 two-lane, dedicated as B3
2013 OU Celle, 2nd construction phase / southern part of the O 3.2 two-lane, dedicated as B3
